A unit load is an organization of materials as a single unit, which allows them to be handled by material handling equipment as one load. Unit load generally refers to larger configurations that would be moved by a lift truck such as palletized loads, crates, bales, etc.[1]

A unit load is a number of individual packages bonded, palletized or strapped together to form a single unit for more efficient handling by mechanical equipment.[3]

System Components

The efficiency of unit load material handling is based on the performance of three interactive components:

  1. Packaging
  2. Pallet
  3. Material handling equipment[2]
