A mast is the vertical member by which the carriage of a forklift or other lifting mechanism is guided throughout its vertical travel.[1]

Lift Truck Mast

The mast of a lift truck, also known as a "lift mast," is the support member that provides a structure to permit vertical movement of the carriage. It is usually constructed out of C-Channel uprights that provide the supporting pathway for the carriage rollers.[2]

Lift trucks are available with single, double, triple or quad masts, reflecting the number of sections or stages the mast has.[3]
