The lead acid battery is the most common type of battery and is typically what one would find in a household or vehicle. The lead acid battery is made up of plates, lead and lead oxide with 35% sulfuric acid and 65% water solution. This solution is called electrolyte and causes a chemical reaction that produces electrons.[1]

Types of Lead Acid Batteries

There are two general types of lead acid batteries: deep cycle batteries and starter batteries. Both may be used, for example, to start an internal combustion engine, but a starter battery can withstand a deep discharge only briefly, while a deep cycle battery takes longer to reach a deep discharge but is able to withstand deeper discharges over a longer period of time.[2]
