Founded in 1918, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a non-for-profit organization that oversees the creation, promulgation and use of thousands of norms and guidelines that directly impact businesses in nearly every sector: from acoustical devices to construction equipment, from dairy and livestock production to energy distribution, and many more. ANSI is also actively engaged in accrediting programs that assess conformance to standards, including globally-recognized cross-sector programs such as the ISO 9000 (quality) and ISO 14000 (environmental) management systems. A premier source for timely, relevant, actionable information on national, regional, international standards and conformity assessment issues [1], ANSI supports the development and approval of national voluntary standards, and serves as U.S. representative to the International Standards Organization (ISO) and its members including trade associations, labor unions, professional societies, private industry, academe, and government.[2]
