Student Designs Crate

- 7/24/2009
Chislehurst, England – A student at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication has created a crate that can fit 17% more cans on a pallet.

The reusable HDPE crate, designed by product design graduate Thomas Wooller, is shaped around the cans, rather than being the standard rectangle. Each crate tessellates with the next so that space is not wasted in between crates.

The customized shape of the crate results in the ability to fit 36 more cans per layer on a standard pallet, compared to using square crates. Wooller adds, "The crate also protects and displays tinned products to a very high standard, reducing damage."

The crate is injection molded and is intended to be reused in the supply chain.
