A charity fork lift truck drive from John O'Groats to Land's End in the United Kingdom has been halted because of heavy snow.

The charity drive is being held in memory of Tim Frankham from Yate, who died from a brain tumour in May 2009.

A team of three people is hoping to raise £15,000 for Cancer Research UK. The truck was traveling at an average speed of 12mph on the 915-mile route,

But the team is stranded in Aviemore after local police advised them to temporarily stop the attempt.

The team left on 24 February 2010 and had managed to cover 150 miles.

Tim's brother-in-law, Stuart Colvin, was first to drive the vehicle in the team of 3.

The fork lift is now on a low-loader, queued on the A9 which has been closed.

Stuart said: "The police basically said we have to pull you off. We were under two feet of snow."

He added there have been "a lot of discussions" with the police and that they are hoping the fork lift will be able to move at the weekend.

The inspiration for the trip came after Tim successfully completed the route in 1993 and mentioned he wanted to do it again.

The trio were hoping to arrive in time for a reception in St Ives on 1 March 2010, which would have been Tim's 43rd birthday.
