Harlan, IA – According to the results of a new CFO survey commissioned by Basware and produced in cooperation with Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and the University of Navarra’s IESE Business School, supply chain management is poised to grow in demand.

The survey included finance officers in 550 companies in Europe and North America. It found that companies are focusing on a defensive mode. “Reducing direct costs” is the main priority for 66% of respondents. The second most-cited priority, at 60%, was “reducing indirect costs.” Only 27% said “increasing profits” was a main priority in the next year.

One-third of respondents also reported seeing the value of supply chain management; five years ago, fewer CFOs might have found value in supply chain management, and future surveys could show an even bigger increase. “I think that’s going to grow,” says one of the survey’s producers, Mark Frohlich, a professor of supply chain and operations management at the Kelley School.
