Raymond Consolidates Manufacturing

- 9/21/2009

The Raymond Corporation is moving the assembly of its Raymond Reach-Fork truck line to its headquarters in Greene, NY. The transition, which will be completed in the first quarter of 2010, will initially create more than 100 jobs. The design, engineering and prefabrication of the Raymond Reach-Fork trucks are already performed in Greene.

As a result of the consolidation, Raymond will be idling its Brantford, Ontario, plant, where Reach-Fork trucks are currently assembled. The plant will remain idle for an undetermined length of time. This consolidation will affect 250 positions.

This strategic decision was made due to a broad and continued decline in the North American lift truck market and to better optimize engineering and manufacturing efficiencies.

"Raymond has made the strategic decision to consolidate all of its Class II lift truck manufacturing to support the healthy future of the company and its more than 1,800 employees," says Jim Malvaso, president and CEO of Raymond. "This change allows us to continue developing innovative solutions that best serve our customers and their needs. Every employee in our Brantford operations has been an incredible asset to The Raymond Corporation. This decision did not come easily, and we thank them for their many contributions."

The Raymond Corporation will continue to maintain a presence in Canada through G.N. Johnston Equipment Co., Ltd., a Raymond Sales and Service Center. G.N. Johnston, a wholly owned subsidiary of Raymond, has the number one material handling position in Canada and operates 13 locations nationwide.
