Material Handling in Iraq
- 5/12/2009Keeping all vehicles in working condition and managing ordered parts to fix non-mission capable vehicles is what the 10th Sustainment Brigade's Materials and Maintenance Office provides to its subordinate units on a daily basis.
Sgt. 1st Class Lemuel Gonzalez, a native of Puerto Nuevo, Puerto Rico, works as the material handling equipment NCO. "I am the quality assurance man for our team. I spend my day getting the job done, because there is no other standard besides that for me," Gonzalez said.
Staff Sgt. Stephen Gale, a native of Gouverneur, NY, who works as the material control and accounting non-commissioned officer said, "I give a full view to our higher command of what vehicles and supplies are available, at all times. My job is to maximize quality assurance to each motor pool that the 10th SBDE controls. Teaching and mentoring all Standard Army Maintenance Systems operators at the battalion and unit level, keeps me on my toes each and every day."
Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Kerr, a resident of Kingston, Jamaica, works as the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected and Stryker Light Armored Vehicle fleet manager, tracking all MRAP and Stryker parts throughout the brigade. "I ensure that all units are being proactive with ordering parts and daily maintenance," said Kerr. "I make sure that information is passed down to the lowest level of Soldiers. This ensures duties are completed thoroughly, daily and, most importantly, on time."
Maj. John Salling, a resident of Weathersfield, CT, is the Maintenance Readiness Officer for the 10th SBDE. Salling monitors the readiness posture for brigade and its subordinate battalions and units. "Ensuring success of our missions and passing that down the line is my personal interest. I want all of my Soldiers to come home with me, safely," he said.
Master Sgt. Lula Grundy, a native of Arkansas City, AR, works as the Maintenance Readiness NCOIC. "I prioritize work status for all sectors of the M.M.O," she said. "Ensuring health, welfare and being the lifeline for all of my Soldiers paints a great picture of my daily routine. I bring 19 years of maintenance experience to this section; my motto stands true: Drive and determination will not let the mission fail."
