Bentonville, AR – Wal-Mart allowed the media inside its Distribution Center No. 6094 for a look at how the company runs it distribution centers. Located along Arkansas Highway 12 on the southwest edge of Bentonville, AR, the 1.2 million-sq.-ft. building employs 700 associates.

"Cardboard boxes of every shape and size imaginable passed by overhead on a complex yet fast-moving maze of conveyor belts. Tall rows of metal shelves, stretching twice the length of a football field, were lined one after another. Machinery zipped by to the right and to the left. Metal chutes were guiding products to the 120 Wal-Mart trucks docked below," reports Jeff Mores of The Benton County Daily Record.

Wal-Mart Distribution Center No. 6094 moves an average of 400,000 cases daily. The facility is equipped to move up to 600,000 cases if necessary. In some instances, product can be unloaded from an arriving truck, bar coded, sent on its path through the distribution center and onto the truck waiting to deliver it to one of the 120 stores the facility serves in as few as 30 minutes.
