Wisconsin-based Columbia ParCar delivered 39 electric vehicles to Fort Knox this month for on-post use by various departments.

Fort Knox spokesman Kyle Hodges said 22 4-seat passenger cars and 17 utility trucks are being inspected by the base’s transportation director prior to their on-base operation. Hodges said there are no plans to use the electric vehicles off post.

Those to soon use the trucks and cars agreed last year to swap their combustion-engine rides for an electric vehicle, according to former Fort Knox Transportation Officer Terry Byrd, who was interviewed last year about the purchase.
