Brockville, ON, Canada – Two friends in Canada converted a car to electric power by using forklift parts.

The ForkenSwift is a 1992 Geo Metro converted from gasoline to electric power with used forklift parts. It is designed as a low cost, medium-speed car for use in a small, quiet city.

Forklift parts used in the car include cabling, an 8-inch pump motor, a shaft from a hydraulic pump, contactors and fuses. To date, the project's total cost is $997.60.

In city driving, the can go around 30-34 mph. A charge lasts around 19-22 miles in warm weather.

The site mentions MHEDA member Hansler Industries Ltd. as assisting with the project.
