Waltham, MA – A report from the Business Software Alliance that ranks the top 10 U.S. industries with the highest reports of software piracy puts manufacturing and distribution at the top of the list.

The report was based on confidential reports of software piracy that BSA receives through its Web site and a toll-free hotline. The group solicits and receives more than 2,500 confidential reports per year.

"Managers in these industries need to know that PC software piracy is illegal and highly risky," BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman says. "Whether it occurs deliberately or by accident, software piracy significantly increases financial, legal and information security risks for the companies involved."
