Lubbock, TX – For the past two months, Llano Logistics has been producing bagged ice for United Supermarkets LLC at what United says is the first fully automated ice-making system of its kind in Texas.

At the 9,200 sq. ft. facility, cubes fall from a conveyor belt into a large wet ice rake room, where they are warmed to 33 degrees before being emptied onto a conveyor line and shot into 7- and 20-pound plastic bags. The bags moved down another line where a robotic arm lifts and places each bag on a pallet, where they are shrink-wrapped and carted off to a refrigerated section. No human contact is necessary until the ice is ready for stacking at store level.

Operating three days a week, the plant produces 100,000 tons of bagged ice a day.
