Fremont, CA – Asyst Technologies Inc. has agreed to three deals to sell the major pieces of its automation business to Crossing Automation Inc., Murata Machinery Ltd. and The Peer Group.

The agreement with Crossing Automation will transfer Asyst's atmospheric (non-vacuum) technologies, including the load port, wafer sorter, equipment front-end module (EFEM) and RFID products. The deal involves the transfer of about 120 Asyst employees to Crossing Automation’s 17-person business.

Murata Machinery will acquire the automated material handling system (AMHS) business from Asyst, spending about $115 million, according to court documents filed this week before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Oakland, CA. The deal involves all of the assets of the Asyst Japan subsidiary, as well as certain U.S. assets related to the AMHS business. The Peer Group acquires the Asyst connectivity software.

Asyst filed for chapter 11 protection last April after lenders pressed Asyst for repayment on loans in the United States and Japan. At that time, Asyst promised to "effectuate a disposition of its assets" that would benefit all stakeholders in the company.
