Following the tragic events of the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, which wire reports said may have killed hundreds of thousands of people, various transportation and logistics organizations and providers are taking steps to offer aid and assistance in various ways.

The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN), an organization that serves as a primary point of industry contact for disaster relief support, said it is working to identify relief needs together with major humanitarian relief agencies, including the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NOVADs), FEMA, and the American Red Cross.

"As needs are identified that can be met through the expertise and resources, we will share those needs with association members through www.alanaid.org," according to a statement.
